HYROX Doubles: rules, divisions and how it works
How HYROX Doubles works in 2026/27: the 5 divisions, running together, how to split each station, the penalties to avoid and the weights for Mixed Doubles.
In this guide
HYROX Doubles is HYROX for two: you and your partner run all 8 km side by side and split the work at the 8 stations however you like, with one of you working at a time. The weights are the same as singles, and your time stops when the second partner crosses the finish line.
Everything below follows the official 26/27 Doubles rulebook.

The 5 HYROX Doubles divisions
- Doubles Men: two men on the men’s Open weights.
- Doubles Women: two women on the women’s Open weights.
- Mixed Doubles: one man and one woman, both on the men’s Open weights.
- Doubles Men Pro: two men on the Men Pro weights (202 kg sled push, 9 kg wall ball).
- Doubles Women Pro: two women on the men’s Open weights.
Each division starts in its own waves. Results are ranked overall and by age group, and they are published at results.hyrox.com after the event.
How does HYROX Doubles work?
A Doubles race has the same format as any HYROX: 1 km of running, then a workout station, repeated 8 times in a fixed order (SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, Wall Balls). The doubles-specific rules are about staying together:
- Start together. Both racers must be at the start line at your official wave time. Starting with one racer is not allowed, and starting in a different wave without approval is a disqualification.
- Run together. You both run every 1 km segment side by side. Running ahead costs the team 1 minute.
- Enter and leave stations together. The station only starts when both of you are inside, and you both leave once the work is done.
- One works, one rests (“You Go, I Go”). Only one partner works at a time. You choose when to switch, as often as you like.
- The resting partner stays on their feet. No sitting, kneeling or lying down in the station, and you stay in the marked area without blocking other teams.
More than 3 penalties for not staying together and the team is marked Out of Competition, with no ranking.
Doubles rules station by station
| Station | How you can split it | Rules to know |
|---|---|---|
| SkiErg (1,000 m) | Switch at any distance | You can’t pass the handles to each other; only the working partner adjusts the damper |
| Sled Push (50 m) | Switch at any point | The resting partner walks right behind the worker, in your lane |
| Sled Pull (50 m) | Switch at any point | The resting partner stays behind and can’t touch the rope, but can coach from outside the racer box |
| Burpee Broad Jumps (80 m) | Switch at any point | The incoming partner puts their hands where the other’s feet landed |
| Rowing (1,000 m) | Switch at any distance | Same as the SkiErg: only the worker adjusts the damper |
| Farmers Carry (200 m) | Switch at any point | Hand over the kettlebells sideways or backwards, never forwards |
| Sandbag Lunges (100 m) | Switch at any point | Hand over the sandbag sideways or backwards, never forwards |
| Wall Balls (100 reps) | Switch at any rep | Pass the ball by dropping it or handing it over; a throw-and-catch changeover is a no-rep |
Penalties that catch Doubles teams
- Running apart: 1 minute per infringement.
- Leaving a station through the “IN” arch: 2 minutes.
- Using equipment or a lane you weren’t assigned: 2 minutes.
- Wrong wave: disqualification.
Penalties can be added for up to 48 hours after the event, so a fast finish time isn’t final until the results are.
How to split the stations with your partner
The rulebook leaves the split to you, which makes it the biggest tactical decision in Doubles. Some approaches teams use:
- Short sets on the ergs and wall balls. Swapping every 100–250 m on the SkiErg and rower, or every 10–20 wall balls, keeps both of you working close to your best pace.
- Strengths on the sleds. The stronger partner often takes more of the Sled Push and Sled Pull, and the lighter or faster partner takes more Burpee Broad Jumps.
- Plan the changeovers. A smooth changeover is free time. Practise the kettlebell and sandbag handovers so they never go forward.
Agree the plan before race day and keep it simple enough to follow when you’re tired.
Mixed Doubles
Mixed Doubles is the only division where the two partners have different targets but the same weights: both race on the men’s Open weights (152 kg sled push, 103 kg sled pull, 2 × 24 kg kettlebells, 20 kg sandbag, 6 kg wall ball), and the wall ball target is 2.70 m for the woman and 3.00 m for the man. The HYROX weights guide has every number by division.
Finding a Doubles partner
No partner yet for the race you want? RoxConnect shows who is going to each HYROX and looking for a Doubles partner: open a race such as HYROX London or HYROX Melbourne, check their division and level, and message them before you register.
Frequently asked questions
Do both partners run in HYROX Doubles?
Yes. Both partners run all 8 km together, side by side. If one partner runs ahead of the other, the team gets a 1-minute penalty.
Can one partner do a whole station in HYROX Doubles?
Yes. The rulebook lets you split the work at each station however you like, with one partner working at a time, and it sets no minimum share. Both partners still have to enter and leave every station together.
Is HYROX Doubles easier than singles?
The distances, reps and weights are the same as the matching singles division, but you share the station work, so most teams finish faster than they would alone. The running is not shared: each partner runs the full 8 km.
How is the finish time recorded in HYROX Doubles?
The team's official time is taken when both partners have crossed the finish line. The later of the two timing chip reads is your result.
What is the difference between Mixed Doubles and Doubles?
Mixed Doubles is one man and one woman, racing on the men's Open weights (152 kg sled push, 6 kg wall ball) with a 2.70 m wall ball target for the woman. Doubles Men and Doubles Women are two men or two women on their own division's weights.
How old do you have to be for HYROX Doubles?
Every racer must be at least 16 years old on race day.
